Who Are We?

This web site has been set up by Local History enthusiasts from Holmes Chapel in Cheshire.

Over a period of many years, dedicated ad hoc groups with an interest in local history have carried out research into the history of Holmes Chapel. This has led to the publication of two books, one of which is still in print. (See sidebar)

In 2011 the local branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) was set up in the village and one of the activities under its umbrella was a local history group. This attracted people who had been involved in research in the past as well as some new volunteers eager to learn more.

After an initial period of encouragement and training for the newcomers it was decided that the group would work together on various projects. The first of these, The Story of Holmes Chapel during the First World War, currently forms the bulk of the content on our website but it is hoped to introduce additional projects. In addition we will be talking to local schools about our work to see whether the information we have gathered is of use in illustrating past life.

In carrying out our research we are happy to work with other local groups and encourage new members to join us.
