Guidebook to St.Luke's Church
Researchers: Peter Cotton, Val White & Alan Perrin
We are working on a new guidebook to the historic parish church, which is a Grade 1 Listed Building at the heart of the community. Taking the book written by Rosemary Scott in 1974 as the starting point and doing additional research into the context of national and local history, changes in worship and developments in architecture, we are dividing the workload into sections following a chronological approach. Peter is looking into the medieval origins of the church, Alan the Tudor and Stuart periods and Val the eighteenth century. We will then consider the many changes which took place in the Victorian era and the twentieth century. We aim to produce an interesting and readable publication for local people and for visitors to the village.
